Important
All events need some rules – we don’t want these to get in the way of your enjoyment of Virtual Learning Week, so let’s get them out of the way quickly!

  • All sessions start promptly, please try to log in and be ready to join your live sessions 5-10 minutes before the start time.
  • You are not permitted to record or take screen shots of the learning sessions due to GDPR and copyright rules.
  • If you do need to cancel a session, or if you have any questions about the event please email events@nes.scot.nhs.uk as soon as you can.

And now for the helpful stuff!

Joining In
A number of the sessions will feature participation via either Mentimeter or Slido which are audience interactive apps therefore it would be beneficial to have access to an additional device eg smartphone, tablet or laptop to enable you to participate. Alternatively, have another tab open on your desktop to access. You will be prompted to participate via a link in the chat function during the session. Please be assured that this is not an expectation or crucial for your participation in the session.

Ideas to Reflect on Your Learning
For an event like this, people often find it useful to have a way of recording things, like what sessions they’re going to, what they were hoping to learn, and what they actually did learn.  Here are two resources that will help you do that.

  • Turas Portfolio: this is an online space where you can record your learning.  If you are not already a TURAS Learn Portfolio user see our useful Portfolio animation and Portfolio User Guide

  • Learning Log: the Learning Log can be used on your device to capture your learning instantly.  It can also be printed off, it has columns where you can put your notes and thoughts about your learning throughout the week.

Bite Size Introductions to NES Learning Resources
As well as the live sessions taking place during the learning week, we are showcasing some of our NES resources we can’t fit into the live programme, including.

  • equality and diversity
  • leadership

Please see our YouTube channel for recordings.  https://www.youtube.com/user/NHSEducation

 Your Posture Matters

  • Who is it for? Everyone working in health and social care can help protect the posture of the people they are caring for.

  • What will they learn? Your Posture Matters are resources that help people recognise posture can change, and for people with limited movement, this change can have a drastic impact. The resources help you think about the way someone sits, lies, stands and moves and what to do if you’re concerned.

  • Why is it important? Anyone who has limited movement is at risk of their posture changing regardless of their age. This can cause problems with eating, drinking, swallowing, pressure sores, pain and breathing – ultimately, life limiting.

  • What can they do next?  Head over to the TURAS page where you’ll find lots of information on postural care, think about how you can use the information where you work and watch out for our learning module coming in 2023!

All Things Social Media
We will be using NES Facebook, Twitter and our YouTube channel before, during and after the Virtual Learning Week.  By publishing videos of Virtual Learning Week sessions onto the NES YouTube channel, we’re able to make these learning resources easily accessible for Support Workers to stream at a time of their choosing.

We encourage all staff to subscribe to our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/NHSEducation) and to also click the bell icon when they subscribe so they receive notifications when NES posts new videos.

We know the support workforce have a strong history of sharing resources with colleagues, so please tell colleagues and use #HCSWlearningweek2022 in all your posts.

Important Information
As stated on the booking form, we will endeavour to make training materials such as presentations and recordings available to attendees as much as possible, although depending on the subject matter, this may not always be appropriate. Attendees should not record or take screen shots themselves. This can raise issues around personal or patient data, GDPR and copyright. If you feel you have a need to make a recording or screenshot, please notify the organisers in advance so that they can discuss and potentially alert the other participants.

If you are attending the Active Bystander session on Tuesday 1 March at 3.15 pm please see following important information:  Under our terms and conditions with the Active Bystander Training Company, as a recipient of the training, you are strictly prohibited from making any sound or video recording of the Training.

Cancellations
We know that life happens and appreciate that things come up at the last minute.  As with all events, however, even virtual ones, there are significant administrative and other resources involved.  So, please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend by emailing events@nes.scot.nhs.uk
