Sonja Wright started her scientific career working in the histopathology laboratory in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 1993 after completing her Chemistry degree at The Robert Gordon University. She then moved to the Haematology laboratory in 1995 and gained experience in all aspects of haematology by rotating through the laboratory as a specialist biomedical scientist. Sonja's career then progressed by being promoted to a senior biomedical scientist in the coagulation section and then to chief biomedical scientist with responsibility for training which was a role she held for 10 years and really enjoyed supporting and mentoring her colleagues as they progressed through their training and careers. Sonja was also a member of the IBMS Scottish Training Forum and was involved in national education days and worked closely with her colleagues from across Scotland. In 2014 Sonja started the Academy for Healthcare Science equivalence programme with the support of National Education Scotland and her department and was successful in being awarded her Clinical Scientist award and HCPC registration. Sonja now runs the flow cytometry service at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and really enjoys working at an advanced scientific level.
