Reverend Simon Betteridge

Lead Chaplain and Bereavement Services Manager

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

Simon Betteridge has been chaplain at UHCW NHS Trust since 2004 and in his current role of Lead Chaplain & Bereavement Service Manager since 2010.  This is a large acute Trust caring for over 500,000 people a year and includes the major trauma centre in the area.

Simon leads a group of 10 chaplains in a diverse multi-faith team serving the large acute hospital, a district general hospital and two mental health hospitals.  During his time at UHCW NHS Trust he has specialised in neonatal loss and mental health care particularly with the elderly.  In the past two years the chaplaincy team have developed listening services in GP surgeries and the out-patients dept in the acute hospital.  Simon also manages a project known as RIPPLE which aims to tackle social isolation, primarily in COPD patients, using a holistic asset based model which includes a Consultant/Chaplain led community clinic.  He is now working on developing initiatives to use similar partnerships within the community in other long term conditions and to improve End of Life Care.

Simon is married to Kelly who is Parish vicar in Nuneaton and has two grown up children Ashley and Kelsey. Away from work he has a passion for motorcycles, walking and Chelsea FC.
