Professor Norman Lannigan BSc (hons), PhD, FFRPS, FRPharmS

Chair of NES Pharmacy Professional Advisory Group

Norman Lannigan is Head of Pharmacy and Prescribing Support Unit (PPSU) in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and has responsibility for pharmaceutical care and medicines management delivered through a network of 14 Hospital Pharmacy Departments and 320 community pharmacies and general practice clinical pharmacy services within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.  PPSU has responsibility for supporting all prescribers to provide safe, effective and efficient prescribing.

Norman is a Visiting Professor in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and an Honorary Professor in the Robert Gordon University School of Pharmacy.  His research interests include pharmacoepidemiology, automation in pharmacy, quality management systems for improving pharmaceutical care and the safe and effective use of medicines.

Norman has 30 years experience as a hospital pharmacy practitioner (24 years as a service lead in various Health Boards including Tayside and Lothian as well as NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde) and was awarded the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Charter Silver Medal in 2000.
