Healthcare Science Officer

Karen Stewart is the Healthcare Science Officer for Scotland, working within the Chief Nursing Directorate at the Scottish Government.  Karen has a board national healthcare science portfolio, which has a particular focus around implementation and delivery of the ambitions of the Scottish Healthcare Science National Delivery Plan. Collaborative working with the Scottish Health Boards and other professional stakeholder groups across the UK is a significant aspect of the Healthcare Science Officer role.

Karen had previously worked for the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service for 25 years as an HCPC Biomedical Scientist, with laboratory experience in transfusion medicine and histocompatibility and immunogenetics before taking on the role of Clinical Laboratory Manager.  The last 5 years have seen Karen’s interest in leadership and strategic management being explored in her current role for the Scottish Government.
