Academy for Healthcare Science

John has been a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) since 1976, becoming President in 2008/9. He was an HCPC partner from 2002-2011, a CPA inspector from 1995 to 2010, and a Non- Executive Director of CPA from 2007 until it became part of UKAS.

Qualified as a Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Transfusion, John has worked across all healthcare disciplines, including a spell as a research assistant.

During the last twenty five years he has held a number of posts including Principal BMS, Business Manager, General Manager, and finally Head of the Project Management Office for a foundation trust.

He has presented many times locally and nationally at Seminars and Conferences and represented the IBMS internationally.

Since November 2011, when John retired he has held office as a Non-Executive Director of the Academy for Healthcare Science, and joined the Board of Lab Tests Online.

John has continued to provide Project Management support to a variety of projects and as an interim manager.

Outside of his professional career he is the lay Chair of the University of Bournemouth’s Research Ethics Committee a position he has held since 2013 and also serves as Chair of Governors for a local school.

John is delighted to be able to continue to work with the Academy in this new role as Chair, particularly during this period of exciting ’One Voice’ work that we are undertaking. ‘One Voice’ is shaped by Healthcare Scientists through the Academy and will pave the future of our profession and enable us to achieve leadership presence across the NHS.
