Haematology

Gillian has worked in the NHS since 2000, first as a Medical Laboratory Assistant and then as a Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.  In 2009 she was appointed as the first supernumerary trainee Clinical Scientist in haematology in NHS Lothian, a post funded by NHS Education Scotland.  Following successful completion of the training programme she obtained dual HCPC registration and is now employed as a Clinical Scientist in the Haematology Department of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she works as part of the team providing a national service for the genetic investigation of disorders of haemostasis as well as local provision of molecular diagnostics for myeloproliferative neoplasms.

Gillian has a First Class Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences, successfully passed her part 1 Royal College of Pathologists examination in 2013 and is currently working towards completing a doctorate by research in the field of liver disease and coagulation.
