Consultant Clinical Scientist in Virology

Following 14 years of postdoctoral work in University of Edinburgh working latterly on sequence diversity of HIV in Africa, Dave got the opportunity to introduce DNA sequencing into clinical diagnostics in Glasgow. This allowed Dave to train as a Clinical Scientist and in 2006 was appointed a Consultant at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, eventually as clinical lead for Medical Microbiology. Having worked closely with Health Protection Scotland the arrival of the SARS CoV-2 pandemic in 2020 saw Dave move there on a permanent basis – thus completing the third phase of Dave’s virology career.
