Head of Audiology and National Lead - Physiological Sciences

In January 2015, Adrian Carragher became the Healthcare Science National Lead for Physiological Sciences, working with Scottish Government to assist the policy implementation of the National Delivery Plan (NDP) for Healthcare Scientists, and to support HCS professional leads and the scientific workforce in Health Boards in maximising their contribution to redesign of services and roles in healthcare. Working at national, regional and local levels this role contributes to a national programme to drive improvement in quality across the range of services provided by HCSs in Physiological Sciences.

Adrian is Head of Audiology Service for NHS Ayrshire & Arran involving both strategic and operational management of the Service and later this summer will take on the roles of Area Clinical Forum Chair and a non-executive director of NHS Ayrshire & Arran. Adrian has been an audiologist for over 30 years and has enjoyed a varied career in both the Scottish NHS and the Hearing Aid Industry where he has been able to develop as an audiologist working across all age groups from new-borns and the very young to the elderly adult population in the identification and diagnosis of hearing loss and the application of technology to improve and rehabilitate people who are deaf drawing on his public, private and industry experience.

Adrian is married with 2 children who have over the last couple of years become competitive club swimmers resulting in him undertaking personal training in life guarding and swimming coaching for which he now holds qualifications for both.
