Healthcare Science Trainees and Supervisors Virtual Event

1 - 5 February 2021

Deadline for registering: Friday 22 January 2021

Healthcare Science Trainees and Supervisors Virtual Event 1 - 5 February 2021

This event will be delivered via Microsoft Teams.

NHS Education for Scotland's ninth national healthcare science conference is for you as a trainee or trainer. Please note the change to a virtual event offering online sessions available at flexible times throughout the week. We hope this new format will present increased opportunities for colleagues to engage. Our sessions offer perspectives on national oversight of healthcare science training, an overview of the processes we use to ensure clear planning and to review progression, and how to resolve difficulties which arise. We will also summarise the changes being made to move the delivery of our training courses to virtual platforms, and reflect on challenges and success stories from within the healthcare science community during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Speakers include some of our emergent scientists still in training as well as colleagues deeper into their careers developing their advance practice. Networking and developing "softer" skills are equally important and sometimes overlooked in the process of becoming a scientist. Our event is an opportunity to learn how all these elements are being addressed and NES's overarching role in assuring training across Scotland.

Although we have gone virtual this year, our event will still offer the opportunity to showcase your poster work. Regardless of identity, specialty or destination, it is an opportunity to hear about the ongoing development of Scotland's healthcare science community and to contribute to it. Our event is free to attend.

Poster Competition for Trainees
Undoubtedly your training was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020. You were all presented with unforeseen challenges and we want to hear from you regarding your unique experiences. Whether you were redeployed elsewhere, working on a project related directly to the pandemic or working from home, you all had to adapt in one way or another. This event is a great way to tell colleagues your story. Submit a poster which conveys the changes you faced as a trainee scientist, highlighting the challenges this presented but  more importantly the innovative ways in which you overcame them. Remember we won't just be judging the content of your poster but crucially how well it has been communicated.

We recommend using Microsoft PowerPoint to design them. They should be saved in PDF format and submitted to hcsevents@nes.scot.nhs.uk by 27 January 2021. This is to enable them to be judged by our panel in advance of the event.

Please note all posters will be displayed in an online public gallery and winners will be announced at the end of the final session.

There will be prizes of £200 for individual submission by a healthcare science trainee, or  £700 for joint submissions of up to 3 healthcare science trainees, towards CPD support.
